The Oyo State Task Force on COVID – 19 has said a total of 72 positive cases were recorded in the state on Friday.
It disclosed that 59 out of the 72 cases were recorded in a company based in Ibadan , the state capital , while the remaining 13 cases were from community testing efforts .
The task force , in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor , Mr Taiwo Adisa , however, did not reveal the identity of the affected company , the News Agency of Nigeria reported .
While urging the residents not to panic , the taskforce advised them to remain vigilant and abide by all the laid down COVID – 19 guidelines by avoiding large gatherings , maintaining social distancing rules and sticking to sanitation laws and hygienic practices , such as constant washing of hands and the use of sanitisers as well as the use of face masks .
The statement added , “ What this tells us is that the virus is still very much around and that we all need to always remain vigilant , while adhering to the preventive protocols as enumerated by the experts .
“ We reported 72 confirmed cases of coronavirus on Friday. Fifty – nine of these are from a single workplace located in Ibadan . The remaining 13 are from the community testing platform in the state . The EOC has begun to work closely with the affected organisation to better understand and manage the situation while contact -tracing of confirmed cases has also started .
