The Ogun State Government has reacted to the alleged assault of a woman by an official of the state’s Task Force.
Specifically, the government has announced the indefinite suspension of all officials involved without pay. In addition, it revealed that the official primarily involved in the alleged assault has been arrested.
The alleged assault of the woman identified as Olufunso Boye-Ekiran had been earlier brought to the public domain. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, June 20, has seen Nigerians call for the prosecution of the alleged suspect.
It was reported that the development occurred after the woman, Boye-Ekiran, and her husband; were arrested by the members of the Ogun State Task Force on grounds of flouting the lockdown in the state. Subsequently, the Task Force had allegedly imposed a fine of N15,000 which the couple was asked to pay.
However, trouble began when the alleged victim, began to record their encounter with the Task Force official on her mobile phone.
Reacting to the incident, Transition Chairman, Ifo Local Government; Hon. Fola Salami had condemned the action of the Task Force officials. Further, he described the alleged assault; as well as the actions of the official as inconsistent with the humane nature espoused by the local government.
