APC Govs visit to Jonathan: We’re consolidating on our national appeal, acceptance, says APC.
The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has defended last week’s visit of its governors to former President Goodluck Jonathan on the occasion of his 63rd birthday, saying as a party for all progressives, it was consolidating on its national appeal and acceptance.
Vanguard news reports that, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Although he did not directly say whether the APC was working on having Dr Jonathan join its fold, the ruling party had recently said it was working on several leaders of the opposition including state governors and its aggrieved former members with a view to getting them to jump ship and join her.
There have been reports that some followers of President Muhammadu Buhari had been rooting to have Jonathan replace their principal in 2023.
“As a party for all progressives, the APC on its part will continue to consolidate on its national appeal and acceptance”, Nabena said in the statement.
According to vanguard news, APC queried why the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP is rattled and disoriented by the mere fact of that visit.
“The Peoples Democratic Party PDP is obviously rattled and disoriented by the recent courtesy visit by some Governors of the All Progressives Congress APC to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Chairman, APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni led the APC delegation.
“At a time when the PDP and its leadership is grappling with a crisis of confidence, one would expect the failed opposition to focus on picking itself up”, he stated.
