The African Democratic Congress,ADC,has substituted its governorship candidate for the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo state following the withdrawal of Dr. Benjamin Akhigbe.
Princess Mabel Oboh, a popular Nollywood movie producer/broadcaster is now the party’s Governorship for the forthcoming election in Edo state.
Oboh was formerly the running mate for the party’s Governorship aspirant, Dr. Benjamin Akhigbe.
In a statement signed by High Chief Anayo Arinze, National Coordinator, Electoral Matters and INEC Liaison, African Democratic Congress ,ADC, on Monday, the choice of Mabel Oboh follows her endorsement by Edo youths and women as well as prominent Edo professionals and leaders of thought in the state.
Also, her choice, it was gathered received overwhelming approval of party leaders following her pedigree as a creative artiste and in line with the party’s resolve to promote women in politics.
ADC effected the change of candidate on on Monday, which was the last day, set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for withdrawal and substitution of candidates by political parties.
Given the tough nature of the governorship race in Edo. ADC wants to prosecute the election with a household name in the movie, music and hospitality industry for easy identification and name recognition.
Meanwhile, Mabel Oboh named London- based Bini Prince and business mogul, Dr. Reuben A. Edokpayi, as her running mate in the governorship election.
In the next couple of days, the party will unveil Oboh’s governorship campaign team comprising of 60 percent women and youths; 20 percent persons with disabilities and 20 percent others.
ADC, therefore calls on Edo youths and women to rally round their own Mabel Oboh and Dr. Reuben Edokpayi, who are determined to take over power from, what she calls ‘ the self serving politicians who have ran Edo state aground in the past 21 years of this current Democratic experiment.’
Oboh, has vowed to extensively mobilize Edo people to vote out the rancorous PDP and APC for peace to reign in Edo state.
