Osun State Governor , Gboyega Oyetola , has said the state ’ s free trade zone , which sits on 206 hectares of land , will boost the state ’ s economy .
According to a statement , the state government hopes to make the FTZ – which will house an international trade centre and an inland port – the largest in the South – West when it becomes fully operational.
Oyetola said the project was aimed at establishing a single market for goods and services that would serve the needs of traders and consumers in the state and its environs , and reducing the attendant risks of travelling to cities like Lagos to transact business .
Oyetola , who spoke at the proposed project site at Dagbolu , Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state , said the FTZ was initiated eight years ago under the previous administration , adding that the project would also open up commercial frontiers for the country .
“ The project will also facilitate rapid economic growth and development of the state , generate massive employment opportunities for the unemployed, encourage massive production of agricultural produce, and reduce road accidents through the haulage of goods by rail ,” he said .
Oyetola added that the FTZ would house a railway, car mart , residential area, warehouse , among others .
