Ekiti State Governor , Dr Kayode Fayemi , has said the upgrade of the 42 – year- old College of Education , Ikere Ekiti , to a university was in realisation of his administration ’ s commitment to the promotion of a knowledge – driven economy in the state .
Fayemi lauded the State House of Assembly led by Funminiyi Afuye on the passage of the bill upgrading the college to a university , saying it showed the commitment of the lawmakers .
The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti on Friday, while signing into law the bill on the upgrade of the College of Education Ikere – Ekiti to the University of Education , Science and Technology , Ikere Ekiti, as part of activities making the second anniversary of his administration .
He said the passage of the bill by the lawmakers was done in the best interest of the people of Ekiti .
Fayemi stated , “ I have no doubt that the new legislation will enhance our restoration agenda and make favourable impact in the lives of our people. The three arms of government , as we all know , are to complement one another for good governance , peace and harmony . ”
Earlier, the Speaker , Funminiyi Afuye , said the bill was one of the 32 passed by the sixth Assembly and signed into law by the governor .
