A police officer attached to Edo State Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (SIIB), Clement Amoko, has been kidnapped in Benin.
The Nation gathered the gunmen invaded the residence of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at Ogida, Benin and whisked him away.
He was said to have been abducted before his wife and children with his whereabouts unknown as at press time.
The Nation learnt the kidnappers later contacted family of the policeman to demand huge ransom but the exact figure could not be ascertained yet.
Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Princewill Osaigbovo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident.
He said the Command was intensifying rescue efforts with various units and other security teams already deployed.
