in News

The Chief Product Officer of Uber, Manik Gupta is stepping down from the company. The resignation would be effective from December 13, 2019.

Gupta resigns as Chief Product Officer of Uber

The Former Product Manager of Google Maps disclosed to TechCrunch that he decided to leave because he felt the need to give himself a break especially now that the company has made it through the Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Plans: According to Gupta, the consumer internet space has changed a lot over the last four years and as such, he plans to look into the emerging trends in that regard.

A look into Gupta’s profile: Gupta joined Uber from Google in 2015 as a senior director of the maps and marketplace product team. In November 2018, Gupta was promoted to chief product officer.

Prior to now, Gupta worked as Project manager for Hewlett-Packard Singapore where he managed mission-critical web-stores and call-centre applications. He also worked as Country Manager for the company, BuyItTogether.com CoTech in India.

Gupta holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University as well as an MBA of Analytical Finance & Strategic Marketing from Indian School of Business.

Speaking on Gupta’s departure from the company, a spokesperson said, “Over the past four years, Manik has elevated our product strategy and has been the driving force behind some of our most ambitious launches, including Uber Rewards and Uber Pro, Uber Wallet, and our movement towards a ‘super app. We’re grateful for his leadership and wish him the very best.”

Although Uber is yet to have a replacement for Gupta, the company plans to keep Gupta in the company for a bit longer till they find a suitable replacement. Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi will be working closely with a general partner at Benchmark, Matt Cohler, to search for a new product officer for the company.
