Handball: Safety Shooters win men’s title as Dynamos crash

With one game left to play, Safety Shooters on Thursday claimed the Prudent Energy Handball League after beating Plateau Vipers 30-23 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Knowing that a win would hand them the title, Shooters threw everything at their opponents and were rewarded with the victory, dethroning last season’s champions Kano Pillars in the process.

An excited Bala Mohammed, Shooters’ coach, said, “It has been a tortuous journey, but we are happy to end it well.

Debutants Adorable Angels of Ilorin moved closer to winning the title after a comprehensive 43-24 win over Edo Dynamos on Thursday.

It is Dynamos’ first loss in the competition, but a win in the next game against Plateau Peacock will hand the Ilorin-based Angels the female title.

In other games, Imo Grasshoppers beat Desert Queens 23-17, D:Defenders lost to Kano Pillars 22-14, Delta Force  fell to Rima Strikers 24-31, while Niger United beat Kada Stars 28-22 to move further away from the relegation zone.
