Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has threatened to mobilise Nigerians against National Water Resources Bill, if the Federal Government goes ahead to pass the bill into law, which it described as anti people.
National President of MBF, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, who sounded the warning, yesterday, in an interview in Makurdi, wondered why a bill rejected in 2018 by the National Assembly due to the outcry of Nigerians, would suddenly reappear for reconsideration.
According to him, “The Middle Belt Forum has made its position clear even from the time of Ruga because we sensed the possibility of them promoting the Water Resources Bill.
“They want to take away ancestral lands from the communities and do some constitution amendments or whatever and by so doing take the land, which is kept in custody for the people by the governors and give to the Federal Government. That is unacceptable and we will fight it.
“In fact, we have a document which we prepared kicking against the policy and it is currently in circulation. The MBF is totally opposed to the law because we cannot cede our land to foreigners through government fiat. Moreover, nobody is going to trust this government anyway.
“Considering its war against insurgency and all that, this government cannot be trusted and we will kick against the bill and mobilise Nigerians not to accept it.
“What they are doing is tantamount to taking Nigerian land and handing it over to the Federal Government that seems to be supporting just Fulani and Fulani agenda.
“So, we are one 100 percent in support of the Benue State governor’s position on the bill and we are together and on the same page on the issue.”
