Nigerian govt intervenes in arrest of Omah Lay, Tems in Uganda

The Nigerian government has intervened in the arrest of singers Omah Lay and Tems who are currently detained in Uganda.

Both singers were arrested for performing at a concert in the country against social distancing rules.

Omah Lay who was arraigned in court today cried out on Twitter that Uganda is preventing the intervention of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Why is Uganda not letting @NigeriaMFA step into this? They have been trying to secure our release to no avail,” he wrote.

Reacting to the news, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians In Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, said that the Nigerian Mission in Uganda is on the matter.

She said, “The Minister @GeoffreyOnyeama has also been on the matter. Our mission in Uganda has also taken it up and I just had a conversation with the lawyer representing them.”
