Nigeria Wrestling Federation women ’ s team head coach, Purity Akuh , is confident the trio Odunayo Adekuoroye , Blessing Oborodudu and Aminat Adeniyi will make podium finish at the 2020 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from December 12 to 20 .
The sports ministry on Tuesday approved funds for the team ’ s participation at the event , putting an end to several weeks of uncertainty surrounding the nations participation at the annual event .
Of the three participants , only Adekuoroye has won a medal at the championships (Las Vegas, 2015 , Paris 2017 and 2019 , Nur-Sultan , Kazakhstan ) with Oborodudu and Adeniyi coming close on several occasions but Akuh is confident there will be a change this year .
“ Of course we are targeting podium finishes for the girls . If you can remember Oborodudu came sixth in the last world championships in Kazakhstan and her loss was caused by a little technical error but this time during the COVID – 19 we had a series of technical classes with them and worked on their deficiencies and I think this time around she ’ s going to be on the podium , ”
“ On the part of Aminat we found out about some emotional distress and we are seriously working on them . I think the three of them can be on the podium ,” Akuh.
