Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has donated 50 units of one-bedroom semi-detached houses to University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) staff.
Commissioning the completed houses on Friday at the university campus, the governor said the state government would intervene and liaise with a Micro Finance Bank (MIFB) for staff to own their houses.
“Besides donating these houses to the university, staffers are to pay instalmentally through their salaries on an owner-occupier housing scheme,” he said.
Zulum, who was a former staff of UNIMAID Faculty of Engineering, also pledged to build a befitting structure for the faculty.
He said the Department of Civil Engineering, which could not meet its accreditation programme, would be assisted with N100 million worth of engineering teaching equipment.
“With the donation of houses to staff, I also promised that portable water requirements of institution will be met,” he said.
