Ayodele: In case you forgot, be reminded that a moment of anger can sink your entire future. For your eyes will become clear immediately you finish your act.. Stay safe
The day was like any other day, bright and sunny. The sky was blue and the weather clement. As he wore his cap to complement his entire uniform, he began to think…
Back to his childhood when his mother would carry him on her back and walk the long distance to his school, how mama sold her belongings to pay his school fees… then he thought of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, hmm, that was another hell of a time, he murmured to himself. Yes! He looked straight in the mirror and nodded as he did his last button, admiring himself.
One day, I will take good care of you mum. One day, I will become the Chief of Naval Staff. One day, I will become a prominent politician in this country, I’ll probably start from the House of Representatives, then gradually move towards being a senator, governor, in fact, who says I can’t become the president of this country? If I keep my head up and focus on my career, yes one day.
Tomorrow!!! God, please let this tomorrow come, he ended his thoughts with a prayer.
He needed to pick something up in town. The car was already washed and ready for him. He stepped out of his house, hopped into the car and set out to Ikeja.
On the stretch of Obafemi Awolowo way, just before Allen round about, he stopped at the traffic lights at Oregun road junction, and, gboa!!! The unexpected happened. “Who the freaking hell is that?” He yelled. He grabbed his pistol and briskly alighted, livid.
The okada man was sore scared, already on his knees, “I’m sorry, Sir”, he kept begging with tears rolling down his cheeks. “Please Sir, it was my brakes that failed, I will fix the dented area, Sir. Please forgive me.”
Open your mouth the officer yelled!! I’m sorry sir, “I say open your godamn mouth”. With fear written all over his body, he finally opened his mouth, the pistol was shoved into the okada rider’s open mouth and in the full glare of the public, in Ikeja traffic, in his full uniform, he pulled the trigger. Gboa!!! He shot that man dead right there. ANGER!!! What a demon you are!
Before we could say jack, people had rallied round to revenge, oh yes! He will have to kill all of us today o. They ran towards him, not minding the gun in his hand. It was then that he realized that he was in some serious trouble and needed to run for his life. He ran into a nearby bank to avoid being mobbed but his car was razed down immediately. The bank was about to suffer the same fate when the Police came to save the day.
He was arrested, court-martialed dismissed from the Navy, and subsequently, jailed for life.
So went the dream, so went his “tomorrow”. He may be pardoned in the future, but one thing is certain, never will he become the Chief of Naval Staff and he definitely won’t become the President, ever. What a life!
