Omawumi recently shared her experience as a single mother at a time on this week’s episode of #WithChude.
The singer, who got pregnant out of wedlock before her baby daddy, Tosin Ibrahim Yusuf, finally decided to seal their relationship with ink and a kiss, at the Ikoyi registry in 2015, outlined what has worked for her in the pursuit of true happiness and her journey through single motherhood into a consciously decided marriage.
She recalled how she was the only child of her parents to get pregnant out of wedlock.
“My father has 14 children, I am the twelfth child. I was the only one as at that time to get pregnant out of wedlock,” she said.
“I conceived three months after my husband and I met. “I asked him, ‘Are you ready to marry?’ and he said he wasn’t,” the songstress added.
Inspired by the lifestyle of maverick musician, Charly Boy and Denrele Edun who’s known for his eccentric fashion style and personality, Omawumi reveals how she has lived her life exactly how she feels is best regardless of the opinion of others.
Reflecting on the past, the singer discloses how she would advise her younger self if she could, not to limit herself and to take advantage of every opportunity.
“I’m just living, some people don’t remember to live. Living isn’t necessarily enjoyment and enjoyment doesn’t necessarily mean happiness.”
She confessed that while single motherhood didn’t tax her a lot, her children like it better now that she is married to their father.
Omawumi and her hubby, Tosin dated for about five years before they finally got married at the Ikoyi registry in 2015. On the issue of motherhood, the singer once declared that she would never swap being a mother with anything in this world. “I don’t think it has deprived me of anything. There is nothing out there that would make me regret being a mother or make me stop being a mother,” she said.
