Following an Appeal Court ruling on Tuesday, which upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the party’s National Chairman, the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom, has taken over as the party’s Acting National Chairman.
While addressing a newsmen at the headquarters of the party in Abuja, on Monday, Giadom said the decision of the screening committee on the Edo Governorship primary is thus canceled.
He called on all aspirants to report for fresh screening between today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).
According to him, it is against the law of natural justice for the suspended chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole to have presided over the screening exercise in the Edo Governorship primary.
Giadom explained that he has taken over based on a previous court order empowering him to do so.
According to him, he has the backing of the members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Mr. Gaidom earlier on Wednesday took over as the party’s Acting National Chairman after the APC on Tuesday elevated Sen. Abiola Ajimobi to serve as its acting National Chairman.
In a statement signed by party spokesman Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC said its National Working Committee (NWC) had been guided by the party’s legal department in line with the provisions its constitution.
“According to Section 14.2. (iii), of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South ‘Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone’,” the statement said.
This development comes after the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja also on Tuesday affirmed the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomole as a member and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
